bags
- Wash
cloth

- Bar soap
and shampoo
- Light
weight clothing, scrubs are useful for clinic (No
shorts in the clinic) Consider bringing old clothes
to leave behind.
- Consider
spraying your clothes with Permethrin before
leaving. It is an excellent insect repellent and
lasts through several washings.
- Bring
COMFORTABLE shoes
- Small
fanny or backpack to carry belongings back and forth
to the clinic
- Baby
wipes for using in the clinic
- Small
token gifts for translators and other helpers you
work with during the clinic
- Don't
pack things on the bus if they are not yours.
- Small
bills for exchanging currency (Not travelers checks)
- Pens and
clip boards
- Snacks,
power bars, etc.
- BE AWARE,
days are LONG, hot and continually busy so bring
supplies to be prepared!
- Please
DON'T give away left over lunches unless you are
ABSOLUTELY SURE everyone else on the team has
already eaten!!
- Plan to
always stay WELL HYDRATED. This should begin a few
days BEFORE YOU LEAVE and during the flight as well
as while you are there.
- Use NIX
crème rinse before you leave on the trip.
- Bring
insect repellent. At least 20% DEET is best.
- Plan to
ALWAYS ask permission before taking photos of any
Guatemalans, especially children! (Expect to be
asked to pay a small amount for the photo)
- Bring
tissues
- Bring
your own blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, otoscope,
opthalmoscopem etc. They WILL get very dusty and
dirty.
- Bring a
note pad or paper.
- Bring a
flashlight. The power goes on and off, you WILL need
it! If you are a provider you will also find a
headlamp helpful.
